Poverty alleviation among women
One effect of the Covid19 pandemic is that it has made poverty in communities, particularly among women, worse. When combined with the cost-of-living increase brought on by the war in Ukraine, the community is struggling to meet basic requirements, especially food, for their households.
Women have been given vegetable seeds by EMAM to cultivate in their homes and fields. These vegetables will be consumed as food as well as extras sold to generate income and purchase other household essentials. In Ntcheu, this project was piloted, and we intend to expand it to other districts. In order to reduce poverty in households and communities, EMAM is still looking for further opportunities to support women in a variety of income-generating activities.
Ex-miners Association of Malawi (EMAM), a non-profit organisation, was established by former migrant miners who worked in South African mines and was formally incorporated in 2015 under Malawi’s Trustee’s Incorporation Act.
